Leg curl

Muscles worked: Hamstrings

Lying leg curl, shown with a light dumbbell between the feet: legs straight (left) and knees bent (right).
Start (left) and finish (right). Illustration: Fit Fit City.

How to do it

  1. Set up. On a lying leg-curl machine, line your knees up with the pivot and set the pad just above your heels; hold the handles. The picture shows the same movement on a flat bench with a light dumbbell held securely between the feet.
  2. Move. Curl your heels towards your bottom in a smooth movement, keeping your hips down on the pad.
  3. Finish. Return slowly until your legs are almost straight. Don't let the weight stack drop or bounce.
