How this works

• Where the gyms come from. Gyms and their details come from OpenStreetMap, a map built by volunteers. It’s free and open, but it isn’t complete: some gyms are missing, and details can be out of date. Anyone can add or correct a gym, including you.
• Opening hours. We only show Open now or Closed when a gym’s listed hours can be read reliably, using UK time. If no hours are listed, you’ll see Hours not listed. If they’re written in a way we can’t read with certainty, or it’s a bank holiday and no holiday hours are given, you’ll see Check hours. Outside the UK we show the listed hours only, without Open now. We never guess. Always check with the gym before you travel.
• Not an endorsement. We don’t rank, review or have any arrangement with the gyms listed. Before you join one, read our guide to choosing a gym.

What happens to your search

Nothing you type is sent to Fit Fit City or stored by us. If you press Use my location, your browser asks your permission first; the position is rounded to about 100 metres and used only for that search. To find the location, a town or city is looked up in our own list first; a postcode, or a place that isn’t on our list, is sent to postcodes.io, and if that doesn’t find it, to Nominatim, OpenStreetMap’s search service. To find gyms, the location, rounded to about 2 km, is sent to our server, which asks the Overpass API and keeps the list of gyms for that area for up to 30 days so the next search nearby is quick. We don’t keep who searched or what they typed. If our server is slow, your browser also asks the Overpass API or one of its public mirrors directly, or Nominatim. Map images load from OpenStreetMap’s tile servers. Like any website, those services see your IP address.
