What the calorie counter does

Where the 52,000 foods come from

Everyday foods like porridge oats, a boiled egg or a jacket potato come from the UK government’s food composition tables (CoFID), which cover 2,853 foods. On top of that there are around 50,000 products sold in UK supermarkets, from Open Food Facts, and you can find those by barcode as well as by name.

Values are per 100 g or 100 ml, or per portion where one is set. Brands change recipes, so check the label if a number looks off. If something’s missing, you can add your own food.

Your diary, and who sees it

What you eat can count as health information, so the diary asks first. With your OK, it’s saved to your account as well as your device, so it’s there on your phone and computer. Prefer not? Keep it on your device only. You can download it or delete it at any time.

Want a rough target first?

The calorie deficit calculator gives you an estimate of your maintenance calories and a steady daily target, with no account needed. The calorie counter in the member area uses the same equation.

Questions

How much does the calorie counter cost?

It’s part of FitFitCity membership rather than a separate app: £79 a year, or £9.99 a month on a 12-month minimum (£119.88 in total), all taxes included. The membership also includes the training plans, the workout log and 225 recipes.

Can I try the calorie counter in a free week?

Yes, while places last. The free week gives you full member access, calorie counter included, for 7 days. No card needed, and it ends by itself.

Can I scan barcodes?

Yes, on phones that support scanning. On other devices you can type the barcode number in, or search by name.

Does it count protein as well as calories?

Yes. Alongside calories, it shows protein, carbs, fat, sugars and salt for the day.

Do I need to download an app?

No. FitFitCity runs in your web browser on your phone or computer, so there’s nothing to install from an app store. You can add it to your home screen if you like.

Can I delete my diary?

Yes. You can download your diary as a spreadsheet file (CSV), or delete it, at any time.
